There’s a
LOCAL PURPOSE
Be aware of the impact of your
dollars. Local businesses assist the community through a “multiplier effect”:
one dollar spent at a local business will return five times that amount within
the community through city taxes, employees’ wages, and purchase of materials
and supplies at other local businesses. In addition, these businesses will turn
that dollar back into the community through school funding, social services, and
contributions to local non-profit organizations. Non-profit organizations
receive an average 350% greater support from local business owners than they do
from any other source.
When
you support local Pontiac businesses, you support a better quality of life for
yourself and generations to come.
That’s the key message of this
exciting, new public awareness campaign, initiated by the Pontiac Area Chamber
of Commerce.
The Goal of
The goal of
I GET IT! In Pontiac
is to increase local retail and service sales and
purchases, to thereby revitalize our area economy while creating a brighter
future for our community. We’ll do this by increasing public awareness about
the advantages of buying from local businesses and promoting area businesses.
We hope to not only improve the bottom line for these businesses, but also to
improve the local economy overall. We encourage all Pontiac businesses,
organizations, and residents to make an effort to buy more products and services
in Pontiac.
What is
What is
the I GET IT! In Pontiac
campaign? We are asking residents, business owners, local governments, and
local organizations to take a look at the purchasing habits and pledge to shift
more of their current out-of-area purchases back to Pontiac businesses. You
don’t have to spend any more, just more dollars locally. Your commitment will
help our community grow, and you can take pride in knowing that you are taking
an active role in creating a stronger economy for everyone.
What’s
in it for me? First, a stronger community with more opportunity - a better
quality of life. You will also have a chance to win great prizes. Monthly
drawings will be held for the chance to win $50 in Chamber Gift Certificates.
The
Pontiac Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors always develops a set of
priorities for every year and with the down turn of the economy. The Board felt
it was really important to do as much as we possibly can to get that message of
the importance of shopping locally to as wide an audience as possible. So, they
developed a committee to work on community marketing. The committee put
together a lot of ideas about the importance of shopping locally, because
obviously the idea of supporting local business is a basic foundation of what
Chambers do.
